Employment & Intern Opportunities

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) posts job announcements directly to USAJobs.gov – the one-stop source for Federal jobs and employment opportunities sponsored by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.  USAJobs.gov allows you to search for openings by location or keyword.

For additional information on positions with the Department of Justice, see Careers.

LEGAL INTERNS

OPR provides law students with the opportunity to work as interns with our Office.  The legal intern works closely with attorneys conducting investigations (including collecting and reviewing information and interviewing witnesses), analyzing the law and the facts, and drafting reports.  Investigations may involve all components of the Department, including the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices.  The legal interns can expect to research discrete legal issues, conduct factual analysis, review and organize documents, draft memoranda and reports, draft witness interview summaries, and perform other tasks as required.

Students who are interested in criminal law and ethics issues, who want to learn how to conduct effective investigations and perform factual analysis, and who want exposure to a wide variety of offices and issues within the Department of Justice are encouraged to apply.

OPR hires legal clerks year round:

  • Summer: OPR typically hires two interns full-time every summer.
  • Fall/Spring Semester: OPR hires 2-3 full-time or part-time legal interns for each school semester.

OPR places an emphasis on critical analytical skills, writing, and work experience.  Applicants for an internship must be United States citizens and currently in, or have completed, their second year of law school.  Please note that every student internship is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a security clearance.  If you are interested in an internship position, please click here

OPR will work with students for academic credit or other clinical requirements of their school.

Reasonable Accommodation

The Department of Justice provides reasonable accommodations, upon request, for persons with disabilities when necessary during the application, interview and hiring process (such as the need for forms in alternate formats or the use of a sign language interpreter during the interview). In addition, the Department provides reasonable accommodations to its employees who require additional assistance in carrying out their duties as a result of a disability.  If you require a reasonable accommodation during the application or interview process, please contact our Office.

For more information on the Department of Justice’s Disability Program, see Disability Hiring and Why Justice.

Diversity

OPR works to recruit, hire, and retain quality employees who represent the diversity of our Nation.  Diversity encompasses race, color, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, physical disability, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, parental status, veteran status, physical stature, gender identity,  socioeconomic background and the various other characteristics that bring richness to the Department.
