Youth Legal And Law Enforcement Symposiums

Since July 2013, the United States Attorney’s Office has hosted several Youth Legal and Law Enforcement Symposiums.  The purpose of the symposiums is to provide students with a basic understanding of the criminal justice system, help build a positive relationship between law enforcement and the students, and inform students about career opportunities in law enforcement. The symposiums include an overview of federal criminal and civil prosecutions, and presentations from special agents from the DEA, FBI, ATF, ICE, and the Secret Service.

Symposium attendees also visit the courtrooms of United States District Judges and United States Magistrate Judges.  The judges describe their job duties and responsibilities, provide details about the structure of the federal court system, and share stories about interesting cases.  Students who attend the symposiums generally range from middle school to high school.

Organizations that have participated in these youth symposiums include:  Operation P.E.A.C.E., Atlanta Bar Association Summer Law Intern Program, Another Way Another Chance, Urban League of Greater Atlanta - Urban Youth Empowerment Program, Future Forward Emerging Scholars, and the Fulton County Junior DA Program.
