TWO CIVILIANS INDICTED FOR CONSPIRACY TO MANUFACTURE AND
POSSESS METHAMPHETAMINE ON REDSTONE ARSENAL

BIRMINGHAM, AL – CORTNEY RAE WILSON, 28, of Redstone Arsenal, AL and DENNIS RAYMOND GRIFFITH, 30, of Huntsville, AL, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to manufacture and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.  The indictment is announced today by United States Attorney Alice H. Martin, Greg Borland, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and The Directorate for Emergency Services on Redstone Arsenal.

WILSON and GRIFFITH were arrested on July 7, 2008, on a complaint charging them both with conspiracy to manufacture and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.  According to the complaint, firefighters on Redstone Arsenal responded to a kitchen fire in the early morning hours of July 6, 2008, at 541C Willow Circle where Wilson, the wife of a deployed soldier, was living with her two children.  Later that morning, agents from the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) began an investigation which revealed that GRIFFITH and WILSON were engaged in a methamphetamine cook in the apartment.  According to the complaint, numerous items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine were discovered in the apartment, the carport, and in WILSON’s automobile.

“The manufacturing of methamphetamine is an inherently dangerous activity, and the collaborative efforts of the DEA and agents from The Army were able to quickly investigate the case and remove these individuals from the base,” stated United States Attorney Alice H. Martin.

The defendants face a term of imprisonment of not more than 20 years, a fine of not more than $1,000,000, and a term of supervised release of not less than 3 years after any prison term is completed.

The investigation of this case was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Angela Redmond Debro.

Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges.  A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
