Overall, the number of federal firearms indictments has increased over 100% from 1999 to 2004.

A large percent of offenders prosecuted federally have significant criminal histories and often commit their crimes while under some form of court supervision. In recognition of this fact, many defendants charged federally are detained pretrial.

91% of all federal firearms cases in Connecticut result in guilty verdicts following trial or guilty pleas. 7% of the cases were dismissed in federal court in favor of significant disposition in state court. Therefore, the overall federal conviction rate in Connecticut is 98%.
