In the fall of 2004, neighbors in the 800 block of F
Street, N.E. contacted the United States Attorney's Office
requesting abatement of a drug nuisance located at 810
F Street, N.E. The Community Prosecutor for the First
District discovered that the owner of the property had
pled guilty to a federal narcotics violation in the Eastern
District of Virginia based upon an investigation by the
Drug Enforcement Administration. The United States Attorney's
Office for the District of Columbia informed the United
States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia
of neighborhood concerns regarding drug activity on the
property and urged forfeiture of the property. As a result,
the owner agreed to forfeit his interest in the property
because it had been used to facilitate the commission
of illegal drug activity.
On February 3, 2005, the United States District Court
for the Eastern District of Virginia entered an order
forfeiting the property and the United States Marshal's
Service subsequently took control of the property on February
19, 2005. Since the forfeiture, a community member states,
"the tranquillity of the block has been restored."
