National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (Motor Voter Law)
|
The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA), 42 U.S.C.
§§ 1973gg to 1973gg-10 facilitates voter registration for
federal elections by allowing voters to register by mail, when they
obtain driver's licenses, or when they obtain services from various
government agencies, and it permits voter purges only under very
controlled conditions. Initial NVRA litigation resulted in decisions
upholding the constitutionality of the NVRA. Future litigation will seek
judicial relief against states that resist full compliance or in which
implementation is not effective.
