Commitment of juveniles

No juvenile committed to the custody of the Attorney General,
whether
pursuant to an adjudication of delinquency or conviction for an
offense, may be
placed in an adult jail or correctional institution with regular
contact with
adults incarcerated for criminal charges. 18 U.S.C.A. § 5039
(West Supp.
1995). Juveniles who are in custody pursuant to transfer to adult
status are
housed in juvenile contract facilities until they reach eighteen,
when they are
redesignated to a regular adult institution.
