COCAINE DISTRIBUTOR SENTENCED
Maxwell Wood, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announced that SOLOMON TYRONE DANIELS was sentenced on August 31, 2007 to an eight (8) year prison sentence and five (5) years supervised release by the Honorable Hugh Lawson, Judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. DANIELS, age 47, of Ashburn, Georgia, pled guilty on September 20, 2006, to the offenses of operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine.
DANIELS, the owner of Solo Industries, Inc., in Ashburn, Georgia, entered into a plea agreement in which he admitted that he paid individuals to transport illegal drugs and illegal drug proceeds throughout Georgia and Florida. The investigation by federal, state and local law enforcement officers revealed that DANIELS headed a drug distribution organization that was the chief supplier of cocaine in Turner County and surrounding municipalities. On April 7, 2005, DANIELS paid James Tuckes to pickup cocaine from Christopher Hall in Atlanta, Georgia. Upon Tuckes return from Atlanta, he was stopped by Crisp County deputies and the cocaine was found concealed in Tuckes’ clothing. On April 22, 2005, DANIELS paid Homer Dorsey to pickup cocaine from Buford Jenkins in Albany, Georgia. Dorsey placed the cocaine in his truck and left Albany. Deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop Dorsey’s vehicle. Dorsey refused to stop and subsequently wrecked his vehicle and fled on foot where he was apprehended.
As part of the plea agreement, DANIELS agreed to forfeit $135,308.25 in cash which represented proceeds from the sale of cocaine.
United States Attorney Max Wood remarked that “targeting and dismantling illegal drug distribution organizations remains a priority for his office”.
The investigation was conducted by agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Internal Revenue Service and Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Charles Calhoun.
