GUILTY VERDICT
CLINCH COUNTY MAGISTRATE JUDGE

Maxwell Wood, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia announced that on July 14, 2008, in Valdosta, Georgia, after a jury trial, LINDA C. PETERSON, Associate Magistrate Judge for Clinch County, Georgia, was found guilty on two counts in federal court.

Count One:  Guilty
Perjury under Title 18 United States Code, Sections 1623. 

Count Two:  Guilty
False statements under Title 18 United States Code,            Section 1001(a)(2).

Count Three: Not Guilty
Conspiracy to Commit Extortion by a Public Official, Title 18 United States Code, Section 1951(a).

Each count of which Peterson was convicted carries the maximum penalty of five (5) years imprisonment; $250,000.00 fine; and three (3) years supervised release.  There is no parole in the federal system.  Sentencing will be scheduled by the United States District Court within the next sixty to ninety days.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  The case was prosecuted by United States Attorney Maxwell Wood, Assistant United States Attorney Jim Crane, and Assistant United States Attorney Graham Thorpe.
