BRYSON APO (31), was sentenced today by United States District Judge Susan Oki Mollway to a term of 18 months imprisonment. APO, who had pleaded guilty, was sentenced for conspiring with his co-defendants to obstruct law enforcement by providing law enforcement information he obtained as a result of his former position as a Honolulu Police Department Officer, to co-defendants who operated a cockfighting operation in Waialua, Hawaii. He was ordered to begin serving his sentence on August 1, 2007.
Edward H. Kubo, Jr., United States Attorney for the District of Hawaii, said that APO was indicted with eight others on April 6, 2006, for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy, which, according to information produced in court, included APO and other police officers providing information regarding the activities of the Honolulu Police Department's Gambling Detail, to protect a Waialua cockfighting operation operated by some of the coconspirators and others. Codefendants Glen Miram, a former Honolulu Police Department Officer, and Charles Gilman pleaded guilty on December 14, 2006 and February 22, 2007, respectively, and are pending sentencing. The trial for the remaining defendants was recently continued to January 2008.
This criminal investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Florence Nakakuni and Susan Cushman.
