U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo announced today that Bronwyn Marie Kugle pled guilty in U.S. District Court to possessing Ecstasy; for conspiring to distribute more than 500 grams of Cocaine and Ecstasy (MDNA) tablets; and for being in possession of a gun while being a user of ICE and Cocaine.
Additionally, because Kugle also used her Kailua residence to aid her drug trafficking crimes, it will be forfeited to the United States at the time of her sentence, which is currently set for October 1, 2007, before U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway. When sentenced, Kugle will face a minimum statutory sentence of at least five years and up to forty years.
At the time of the offenses, Kugle was a teacher at Kaelepulu Elementary School. On February 12, 2007, a parcel from California was sent to Kugle containing over 2 pounds of Cocaine and 989 Ecstasy tablets. She was arrested after accepting delivery of the parcel at her home. In addition to the drugs inside the parcel, investigators also found in the home an additional 100 Ecstasy tablets along with a snub-nosed .38 special caliber revolver, loaded with five rounds of ammunition. The firearm's serial number was also obliterated.
Kugle will continue to be held at the Federal Detention Center-Hawaii without bail until her sentencing.
The case was investigated by the Honolulu Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Kawahara is prosecuting this case.
