Oahu resident Dr. Kachun Clement Yeung, age 54, was sentenced today by Chief United States District Judge Helen Gillmor to a year and a day in prison and a fine of $10,000 for dispensing oxycodone outside the course of professional medical practice and for no legitimate medical purpose.
United States Attorney Ed Kubo said that according to information produced in court, Yeung was convicted as a result of an undercover investigation from the fall of 2001 through the summer of 2002. The charges to which Yeung pled guilty involved two prescriptions for 70 and 40 20-milligram tablets of oxycodone delivered to an undercover agent in June 2002 in a bakery parking lot and a hospital garage, respectively. Yeung was paid $350 and $450 in cash on the two occasions.
The prosecution of Dr. Yeung was a result of a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration; the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspection General; the Department of Public Safety, Narcotics Enforcement Division; and the Honolulu Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan M. F. Loo.
