HONOLULU, HAWAII - United States Attorney for the District Of Hawaii, Edward H. Kubo, Jr., announced today that, REX T. HARRISON, 36, of Waipahu, Hawaii, was convicted by a federal jury on November 29, 2007, of two counts of Assaulting a Federal Officer Terroristic Threatening of a Public Servant.
The jury found that on March 9, 2007, HARRISON assaulted two United States Army military police officers, and thereafter made threats to cause further bodily injury to both officers. The jury found that HARRISON committed the offenses while the military police officers were patrolling the United States Army portion of Mokuleia beach, which is directly across the street from Dillingham Air Field.
Immediately following the jury's verdict, Federal District Judge David Alan Ezra, remanded HARRISON to the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending a sentencing hearing on March 24, 2008. HARRISON faces maximum terms of imprisonment of up to 20 years.
Kubo said, "We will zealously protect our military from harm in Hawaii, --- and, we will continue to take a hard stand against anyone who threatens the safety of a law enforcement officer in this state. I am satisfied with this conviction, and on the day that the defendant is sentence, we will be asserting that the only just punishment in this case is jail."
The case was investigated by the United States Army Military Police and the Federal Bureau of investigation and prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorneys Gabriel Colwell and Kerry L. Abramson.
