Des Moines Man Sentenced On Child Pornography Charges
DES MOINES, IA - On January 4, 2007 Joel Jay Karasek, age 41, of Des Moines, Iowa, was sentenced to a term of 78 months imprisonment for the receipt and possession of child pornography, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge James E. Gritzner also ordered Karasek to serve a ten-year term of supervised release after his imprisonment, and imposed an assessment of $200 to the Crime Victim Fund . On June 20, 2007, Karasek entered a plea of guilty to the child pornography charges.
At the time of his plea, Karasek stipulated that from November 15, 2004 to April 24, 2006, he utilized the internet to download child pornography to his home computer where he then stored the files on the hard drive.
This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This case was investigated by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.
