Two Former Iowa City Men Sentenced On Federal Drug Charges

DAVENPORT, IA - On January 28, 2008, Micaiah Rey, age 35, formerly of Iowa City, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 20 years in federal prison, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. A co-defendant, Geno Webb, was sentenced to 10 years, 10 months in federal prison on January 17, 2008. Both Rey and Webb were convicted after a jury trial ending June 25, 2007, of drug conspiracy and distribution charges. There is no parole in the federal system. After release from prison, Rey will be subject to 10 years of supervised release and Webb five years of supervised release. Both were also assessed to pay $100 to The Crime Victim Fund.


An investigation initiated by the Iowa City Police Department in April 2005, resulted in the search and arrest of Rey and Webb on April 23, 2005. During this investigation, Webb distributed crack cocaine, and during the search warrant, Rey was found in possession of drug proceeds. Rey and Webb were also found guilty of distributing crack cocaine again on October 20, 2005 and March 23, 2006.


On March 23, 2006, the Iowa City Police Department, working with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement (DNE), conducted controlled purchases involving both Rey and Webb, and a subsequent search warrant at an Iowa City residence. This search resulted in the seizure of additional drug proceeds from Rey.


On July 8, 2006, Iowa City Police conducted a controlled purchase of crack cocaine from Webb. On September 9, 2006, the Johnson County Drug Task Force conducted a controlled purchase of crack cocaine from Webb at a location in Coralville, IA. Webb was later arrested on October 14, 2006 at an Iowa City hotel and was again found in possession of crack cocaine.


In November of 2006 the DEA, DNE and the Johnson County Drug Task Force conducted controlled purchases from Rey resulting in a search at an Iowa City apartment. Rey was arrested and again was found in possession of drug proceeds on November 16, 2006.
After a federal jury trial ending on June 25, 2007, both Rey and Webb were found guilty of a conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and several distribution of crack cocaine counts.


This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Johnson County Drug Task Force, the Iowa City Police Department, the Coralville Police Department, the United States Marshals Service, Fugitive Task Force, and the Johnson County Attorney’s Office.
