Man Sentenced As Felon In Possession Of Firearm Charge In Davenport Federal Court

DAVENPORT- On May 2, 2008, Alfredo Hernandez-Jaquez, age 30, formerly of Hoffman, Minnesota, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 36 months in federal prison, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Jaquez was sentenced after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. There is no parole in the federal system. After release from prison, Jaquez will be subject to two years of supervised release, and has been assessed to pay $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.


On April 3, 2007, Muscatine Police officers stopped a vehicle after observing it almost side swipe another vehicle. The driver of this vehicle was identified as Alfredo Hernandez-Jaquez. Jaquez was placed under arrest after a consent search found marijuana on his person. A subsequent search of the vehicle found a loaded 9mm handgun.


This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa pursuant to the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. This investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Muscatine Police Department and the Muscatine County Attorney’s Office.
