NEZ PERCE TRIBAL MEMBER CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTERFollowing a 4-day trial, a federal jury convicted Marilee E. Holt of involuntary manslaughter for driving while intoxicated and causing the death of a pedestrian. The incident occurred on April 21, 2006 on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation. The victim, Terry J. Breiner, was crossing U.S. Highway 95 at about milepost 300 when he was struck by Holt's vehicle and killed. The jury deliberated for less than an hour before finding that Holt operated the vehicle with "a wanton and reckless disregard for human life," causing Breiner's death. Sentencing was set for December 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Coeur d'Alene before Judge Edward J. Lodge. Holt faces a maximum penalty of six years in prison and a $250,000 fine. |
