TWIN FALLS MAN SENTENCED TO SIXTEEN YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISONJorge Navarrete-Sanchez, 43, will serve sixteen years in federal prison for methamphetamine trafficking and unlawful possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney Tom Moss announced. On June 18, 2007, Navarrete-Sanchez was stopped by the Twin Falls City Police Department after they received a tip that he was transporting drugs. During the stop, officers found Navarrete-Sanchez in possession of more than two pounds of methamphetamine and a pistol. Officers found more firearms at his residence. Navarrete-Sanchez, an illegal alien and convicted felon, pled guilty in federal court to possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. He was sentenced on Thursday by U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill at the Federal Courthouse in Boise. The case was a joint investigation by the Twin Falls City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and was part of Idaho's Project Safe Neighborhoods program, which seeks to reduce gun violence in Idaho. |
