FORMER PARK CITY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSION OF CHILD PORN

WICHITA, KAN. – Kaine K. Kientz, 38, formerly of Park City, Kan., pleaded guilty Monday to one count of possession of child pornography.

In his plea, Kientz admitted that on May 1, 2006, Park City police received information that he had taken pornographic photographs of a 2-year-old girl during a two-week period in which the child and her mother had lived with him.

When police served a search warrant at Kientz’s home in Park City, they discovered photos Kientz had taken focusing on the girl’s genitals. They also discovered more than 600 other images of child pornography stored on computer hard drives.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 4, 2008. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

The Park City Police Department, the Wichita Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch worked on the case.

This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploration and abuse.

“Our goal is to marshal federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren.
