IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT DETAIN ALIEN AFTER ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY

July 27, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EDWIN MASARIEGOS-BACA, age 27, a resident of Honduras, was charged in a one-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for illegal re-entry by an alien previously deported, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, on July 9, 2007, EDWIN MASARIEGOS-BACA, an alien who had previously been removed and deported from the United States, was found to be unlawfully in the United States within the Eastern District of Louisiana, without having applied to the Attorney General of the United States or his designated successor, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security for re-admission to the United States.

If convicted, EDWIN MASARIEGOS-BACA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years, a fine of $250,000.00 and one (1) year of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Andre’ Jones.
