CRIME TASK FORCE ARREST LEADS TO FEDERAL GRAND JURY INDICTMENT OF CONVICTED FELON

EDWARD BOOKER, age 28, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged in a one-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for with possession with intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride and 5 grams or more of cocaine base, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on May 14, 2006, NOPD officers assisted by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, stopped EDWARD BOOKER in his vehicle and determined that BOOKER had “crack” cocaine in his possession. According to the complaint filed in this case, law enforcement conducted a search of a hotel room where BOOKER had been residing and found additional amounts of crack cocaine in plastic bags as well as amounts of cocaine hydrochloride in plastic bags.
If convicted, BOOKER faces a maximum term of imprisonment of forty (40) years, a fine of $2,000,000.00 and four (4) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Rick Veters.
