NEW ORLEANS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG AND WEAPONS CHARGES

ANTHONY C. KING, 22, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana pled guilty today before U. S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon to a three-count indictment for distribution of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
The defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment. KING will be sentenced on March 5, 2008.
According to the factual basis, on June 26, 2006, a confidential informant told a New Orleans Police Department Officer that he had personally purchased crack cocaine from KING at a location on Verret Street. NOPD subsequently set up surveillance on the area and observed KING participating in apparent drug transactions. The officer then set up a controlled purchase of crack cocaine utilizing the confidential informant. Based upon the surveillance and the controlled purchase, NOPD officers executed a search warrant and located numerous weapons and approximately 1.2 grams of crack cocaine.
The investigation was conducted by the New Orleans Police Department with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U. S. Attorney Richard W. Rose as part of Project Safe Neighborhood.
