DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO OVER EIGHT YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
REGINALD ELZY, age 39, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced by U. S. District Judge A. J. McNamara to 105 months imprisonment for knowingly and intentionally possessing with the intent to distribute five or more grams of cocaine base (crack), announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge McNamara imposed five (5) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment. During the five year term the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
On August 29, 2007, REGINALD ELZY previously entered a guilty plea before Judge McNamara, admitting that on May 9, 2007, he was selling illegal narcotics and utilizing an abandoned blue pick up truck for storage of the contraband. According to court documents, on May 9, 2007, officers of the New Orleans Police Department Crime Abatement Team, assisted by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration as part of a joint initiative against crime, conducted an investigation at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Magnolia Street following numerous complaints of drug activity. Upon arrival at the aforementioned corner, officers and agents observed ELZY conducting hand to hand transactions from an open door in a blue pick-up truck. Once ELZY was detained, agents observed in plain view a bag of cocaine base.
The Court imposed a sentence within the recommended guidelines range. After sentencing, REGINALD ELZY was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.
