FEDERAL GRAND JURY INDICTS TWO ON DRUG CHARGES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DEVERN MORGAN, age 30, a resident of Tickfaw, Louisiana, and JOSE RUBI, age 35, a Honduran National , were charged in a two count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
Count 1 of the indictment charges that around March 24, 2008, MORGAN and RUBI conspired with each other to possess with the intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine. Count 2 charges MORGAN with possession of more than 500 grams of cocaine.
If convicted, both MORGAN and RUBI face a mandatory minimum sentence of five (5) years and a maximum term of imprisonment of forty (40) years, a fine of $2,000,000.00 and four (4) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Maurice E. Landrieu, Jr.
