ATTORNEY PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL TAX CHARGES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROY J. RODNEY, JR., age 50, formerly of New Orleans and a current resident of Houston, Texas, pleaded guilty in federal court to a one-count Bill of Information for failure to file a federal income tax return, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, ROY J. RODNEY, JR. failed to timely file his Federal Income Tax Return for the tax year 2002. RODNEY faces a term of imprisonment up to one (1) year, followed by one (1) year of supervised release, a $25,000.00 fine, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $25.00. Sentencing in this matter is scheduled for August 13, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. before United States District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt.

Speaking to today’s developments, IRS CID Special Agent in Charge Michael J. De Palma stated:

“It is the responsibility of every taxpayer to file federal tax returns. IRS Criminal Investigation is committed to aggressively pursuing those taxpayers who willfully fail to file their tax returns.”

The case was investigated by the Special Agents from the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigations. The case was handled by First Assistant U. S. Attorney Jan Maselli Mann and Assistant U. S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba.
