ARMED BALTIMORE BANK ROBBER SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS IN PRISON
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge William M. Nickerson sentenced Anthony Brown, age 35, of Baltimore today to 16 years in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release for armed bank robbery, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. Judge Nickerson enhanced Brown’s sentence upon finding that he is a career offender based on two convictions, including one for drug-trafficking and one for armed robbery.
According to his guilty plea, on November 29, 2006, Anthony Brown and three co-conspirators robbed the Provident Bank at 2934 O’Donnell Street in Baltimore. One of the conspirators “cased” the bank, pretending to inquire about opening a checking account. She then left the bank, contacted the others by cellular phone and informed them that there were no security guards inside the bank.
A short time later, Brown and another conspirator entered the bank and approached separate teller stations. Brown and the conspirator each displayed what appeared to be a handgun, pointed the weapon at the teller, directing the teller to give them money. The tellers gave Brown and his co-conspirator money and they left the bank. The total amount of funds taken from the bank was later determined to be $10,179.
Two Baltimore City police officers in plain clothes observed Brown and the co-conspirator leave the bank and get into a red van being driven by the 4th co-conspirator. The officers obtained the van’s license plate number and notified Baltimore City police.
Later that day, Baltimore City officers located the red van at the residence of one of the conspirators, on North Spring Street. Officers arrested two of the co-conspirators in the van and located Brown in the rear of the residence, with dye stains visible on his pants. The detective arrested Brown and obtained approximately $1,800 from Brown's pants pocket.
A search warrant executed at the residence recovered approximately $3,984 in dye-stained money and dye-stained clothing matching the description of the clothing Brown and his co-conspirator were wearing during the bank robbery, and a Daisy model BB gun, which matched the description of one of the weapons observed during the offense.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Baltimore City Police Department for their investigative work, and commended Assistant United States Attorney Michael C. Hanlon, who prosecuted the case.
