COLUMBIA DRUG TRAFFICKER SENTENCED TO OVER 11 YEARS
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Marc Ward, age 37, of Columbia, Maryland today to 135 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and 40 kilograms or more of marijuana, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.
According to his guilty plea, Ward and others traveled from Maryland to California to purchase at least five kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of marijuana, which were then distributed in Maryland. In August 2004, Ward and one of his co-conspirators were stopped by the Kansas Highway patrol while traveling from California back to Maryland. A kilogram of cocaine was found behind the glove box of the vehicle. Law enforcement made additional seizures of more than half of a kilogram of cocaine that had been mailed to yet another co-conspirator in Maryland. Kilograms of marijuana were recovered from controlled deliveries of drugs mailed from California to locations in Baltimore or from Maryland residences used by the conspirators.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Howard County Police Department, and the Kansas Highway Patrol for their investigative work, and commended Assistant United States Attorney Christopher J. Romano, who prosecuted the case.
