PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN PRISON FOR HAVING SEX WITH MINORS TO PRODUCE CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
Gave Three Victims Gifts and Money to Entice Them to Have Sex
Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett sentenced Larry Cordell, age 42, of Frederick, Maryland, today to 25 years in prison followed by supervised release for life for sexually exploiting a minor to produce child pornography, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.
According to his guilty plea, on December 31, 2006, as part of an investigation of Cordell into sexual misconduct, law enforcement officers interviewed several victims and learned that Cordell had made videotapes of himself having sex with minor males. Officers recovered 10 videotapes of Cordell having sex with several minor boys. Cordell gave three of the victims gifts and money to entice them to have sex. The victims were from 12 to 14 years old at the time the abuse began and were able to identify themselves on still shots from the videos.
Cordell was previously convicted in 1986 in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland of a sex offense involving a minor male.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
