PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO
OVER 33 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON
Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Roger W. Titus sentenced Ronald Demetrious Thomas, age 39, of Washington, D.C., late on Thursday, June 5th, to 400 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for distribution of more than 50 grams of crack cocaine, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. The sentencing occurred after Judge Titus denied Thomas’ motion to withdraw his guilty plea, finding that he testified falsely during the hearing. Judge Titus also found that Thomas is a career criminal based on 15 previous convictions for offenses including drug distribution and assault.
According to his guilty plea, on June 16, 2004, July 16, 2004 and August 11, 2004, a confidential source (“CS”) arranged, through an intermediary, to purchase cocaine and crack cocaine, which Thomas agreed to deliver to a location in Forestville, Maryland. On June 16th Thomas delivered 122.8 grams of cocaine for $3,600 and on July 16th he delivered 60.8 grams of crack cocaine for $1,850. On August 11th Thomas was arrested in Suitland, Maryland on his way to Forestville to conduct the transaction. He carried a backpack which contained, among other things, 56.7 grams of crack, 126.3 grams of cocaine, a digital scale and $21,650 in cash.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Prince George’s County Police Department for their investigative work, and commended Assistant United States Attorney Barbara S. Skalla, who prosecuted the case.
