SERIAL BANK ROBBER SENTENCED TO ALMOST 8 YEARS IN PRISON
Robbed Five Banks in Five States of Over $48,000 During a Two Month Spree
Greenbelt, Maryland - U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte sentenced Mark Dwayne Murry, age 33, of Decatur, Georgia, today to 95 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for bank robbery, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein. Judge Messitte also ordered Murry to pay a total of $40,042.08 in restitution.
According to his guilty plea, Murry robbed the following banks in 2007 of a total of $40,042.08 after handing the bank tellers demand notes: the Bank of America at 635 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. on January 19 of $9,073.08; the Commerce Bank at 7901 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, Virginia on February 10 of $8,100; the First Bank of the South in Atlanta, Georgia on February 22 of $4,999; the Northern Trust Bank in Chicago, Illinois on March 12 of $9,770; and the PNC Bank at 6551 Coventry Way in Clinton, Maryland on March 21 of $8,100.
Law enforcement officers followed Murry as he left the PNC Bank in Clinton, Maryland and confronted him at a nearby motel where he was carrying a plastic bag containing money and an activated dye pack.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation for its investigative work, and commended Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan C. Su, who prosecuted the case.
