District Initiatives

Operation Weed and Seed

Operation Weed and Seed is a community development initiative of the U.S. Department of Justice. In the Eastern District of Michigan, the program is coordinated under the direction of the Law Enforcement Coordination Specialist. This community driven strategy seeks to “weed” out crime and “seed” in needed resource designed to strengthen the community, its residents, and businesses. The faith-based, education and business communities, community residents, local, state, and federal law enforcement, County Prosecutor’s and social service providers come together in an effort to make the community safe for raising healthy families and maintaining strong businesses. There are currently seven weed and seed officially recognized programs within the district that offer and array of services to the communities within their site boundaries. Our Weed and Seed sites coordinate our Project Sentry and Drug Education for Youths Camp(DEFY). For further information, please contact the director for the site(s) of interest. For information on DEFY Camp, Please contact Jeannie Fields, DEFY Camp Coordinator and Inkster Weed and Seed Director.
