April 10, 2008 WILDWOOD MAN INDICTED FOR FILING FALSE TAX RETURNS St. Louis, MO: Royal Adams was indicted on federal charges of filing false tax returns, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today. “As April 15th nears, individuals are reminded of the responsibility for filing a tax return when required, and for determining and paying the correct amount of tax,” stated Timothy Marsh, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of IRS - Criminal Investigation. According to the indictment, for the years 2001, 2002 and 2003, Adams understated his income and overstated his deductions on his tax returns for each of those years. ROYAL ADAMS, Wildwood, Missouri, was indicted late Wednesday by a federal grand jury on three felony counts of filing false tax returns. If convicted, each count carries a maximum penalty of three years prison and/or fines up to $100,000. Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation and Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Drake, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. |
