For Immediate Release VAN BUREN MAN SENTENCED
TO 48 MONTHS FOR
UNLAWFUL POSSESSION A Van Buren, Missouri man was sentenced today for unlawful possession of firearms, announced United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway. LESLIE DON CUMMINGS, was sentenced to 48 months on one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of firearms. He appeared before United States District Judge E. Richard Webber. On December 11, 2006, a Carter County deputy made contact with Leslie Don Cummings in Van Buren, Missouri, regarding an investigation and asked for permission to search Cummings' residence. The deputy found a box of .22 magnum ammunition in the home, as well as two Marlin .22 caliber rifles, and another rifle in his vehicle. Due to Mr. Cummings' previous felony conviction, he is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. Hanaway praised the Carter County Sheriff's Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their work on the case. Assistant United States Attorney Keith D. Sorrell handled the prosecution for the Government. |
