April 2, 2008 ST. LOUIS COUNTY MAN CONVICTED OF POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY St. Louis, MO: Roderick McArthur was convicted of possession of child pornography, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today. McArthur, who was previously convicted of sodomy on a child under 14, possessed images of child pornography on his computer in April 2006. RODERICK McARTHUR, St. Louis County, was convicted of one felony count of possession of child pornography. The trial was held before United States District Judge Donald J. Stohr. He now faces a mandatory minimum of ten years in prison and a maximum of 20 years, followed by supervised release for life when he is sentenced on June 20, 2008. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In February 2006, the Department of Justice launched Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the Des Peres Police Department, the St. Louis County Police Department, the Postal Inspection Service, the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Regional Computer Crimes Education and Enforcement Group and Assistant United States Attorneys Carrie Costantin and Reginald Harris, who prosecuted the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. |
