For Immediate Release SIKESTON MAN SENTENCED TO 48 MONTHS ON FEDERAL GUN CHARGE A Sikeston, Missouri, man was sentenced today on a federal gun charge, announced United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway. JOSEPH B. CANNON was sentenced to 48 months on one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He appeared before United States District Judge Charles A. Shaw. On October 8, 2007, a Cape Girardeau police officer approached Mr. Cannon concerning another investigation. Mr. Cannon fled, but was apprehended after a short chase. During that chase, Mr. Cannon threw down a Colt .32 caliber pistol, which was found by the officer and seized. Due to Cannon’s prior felony convictions, he is prohibited from possessing firearms. Hanaway praised the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their work on the case. Assistant United States Attorney Keith D. Sorrell handled the prosecution for the Government. |
