FIVE PEOPLE SENTENCED ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES - FINAL TWO SENTENCED TODAY TO MORE THAN 21 YEARS IN PRISON

St. Louis, MO: Five Franklin County area people have been sentenced on methamphetamine trafficking charges, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway and Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke announced today.

“Throughout the course of this investigation, law enforcement agencies in Franklin County and Lafayette County seized a total of 338.9 grams of methamphetamine,” said Hanaway.  “We will continue to work with Sheriff Toelke and the Franklin County Narcotics Task Force to put these meth dealers out of business.”

“This investigation shows the true cooperative spirit of law enforcement. Agencies from both sides of the state worked together with the Eastern District United States Attorney's Office to bring down an entire drug trafficking organization,” added Detective Sergeant Jason 'Jake" Grellner of the Franklin County Narcotics Unit.

SCOTT ALLEN MOORE, St. Clair, Missouri, and KANDIS SHIPMAN, St. Clair, Missouri, were each sentenced today to 262 months in prison.

JEFFREY MCGRATH, Lexington, Missouri, was sentenced to 15 years on May 8, 2008; JERRY HOWES, Lexington, Missouri, was sentenced to 120 months on January 3, 2008;  JAMES MOORE, St. Clair, Missouri, was sentenced to 100 months in prison on December 13.  RANDY KEITH SOHN, St. Clair, Missouri, was sentenced to 135 months in prison on December 4.

On several occasions in April and May 2007, an undercover Franklin County Narcotics Task Force detective purchased 15 grams of methamphetamine “ice” from Randy K. Sohn. On May 8, 2007, they executed a search warrant at Sohn’s residence in St. Clair, Missouri.  Sohn was not present at the time of the execution of the warrant, but arrived home while investigators were still at the residence.  In Sohn’s pocket, investigators discovered a small bag of white crystalline substance that was later determined to be 3.5 grams of methamphetamine “ice.” Co-defendant Jerry Howes told officers that Jeffrey McGrath had been distributing crystal methamphetamine in the Lafayette County, Missouri area and also transporting methamphetamine to Franklin County, and that he had accompanied McGrath on several occasions to deliver methamphetamine to his “St. Louis guy,” who turned out to be Scott Moore. A subsequent search of McGrath’s residence in Lafayette County revealed  235 grams of methamphetamine, $87,585 in cash and 27 firearms.

In addition to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Hanaway commended the work performed on this case by the Franklin County Narcotics Enforcement Unit, the St. Clair Police Department, Lafayette County Narcotics Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
