NINE AREA PEOPLE ARRESTED TODAY
PART OF A 41-DEFENDANT NORTH COUNTY DRUG INVESTIGATION

St. Louis, MO: Nine area people have been arrested today, and 20 more in previous weeks, as part of a 41-defendant North St. Louis County gang and drug trafficking investigation, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway and John Gillies, Special Agent in Charge, FBI St. Louis, announced today at a press conference.  Two defendants remain at large, Eddie Jackson, St. Louis, and Jewel Allen, St. Louis.

“I would like to commend the cooperative efforts of the FBI and the St. Louis County and City Police Departments, which led to these indictments and arrests. The investigation was a multi-agency, collaborative effort involving agents and task force officers from various other agencies and municipalities targeting gang and narcotics related activity,” said Hanaway.

The nine people arrested today are part of a 41-defendant investigation and case that involved the distribution of multiple kilos of cocaine and crack cocaine in the St. Louis area between August 2006 and June 2007, as alleged in the indictments.  The case began with the first indictment of Harold Moore in January 2007; Moore pled guilty and was sentenced to 40 months prison in August 2007. The second indictment, returned last November, involved twenty-two defendants who have made court appearances.  Four have pled guilty, 18 are facing trial in July. A third related indictment was returned in March involving nine additional defendants and remains pending.  The arrests today involve a fourth, related indictment returned June 12, which remained sealed until today’s arrests.

As of today, seizures include: cocaine, crack, heroine, marijuana, approximately $50,000, multiple firearms, including rifles, handguns and shotguns, as well as counter surveillance equipment.

Each defendant was indicted on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine. Numerous defendants in the respective  indictments also face charges related to specific crimes of possession and distribution of narcotics. Additionally, all defendants face forfeiture counts, which, if convicted, will require the forfeiture of property or proceeds of the illegal activity.  Subject to forfeiture are the weapons and money seized, as well as money and assets attributable to drug trafficking activity.

If convicted, each defendant faces a maximum penalty of up to life in prison and/or fines up to $4,000,000.

The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
