CLARKSVILLE MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON ON FEDERAL FIREARMS CHARGES

St. Louis, MO: Charles Barron was sentenced to 46 months in prison on federal firearms charges, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway announced today.

During an on-going investigation of On Target Sporting Goods in Valley Park, Missouri, undercover agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives went into On Target where Barron was employed as a sales clerk.  Agents purchased a firearm from Barron, who was a convicted felon.  During the course of their investigation, agents obtained copies of nine ATF Firearms Transaction Records that reflect transfers of numerous firearms from On Target to Barron during the period from November 2003 to December 2006.  On each form, Barron falsely stated that he had no previous felony convictions.  Each form also contained invalid transaction numbers.  In June 2007, ATF agents executed a search warrant at Barron’s residence in Clarksville, Missouri, and also searched a storage unit in Ballwin, Missouri, that Barron was renting.  From Barron’s residence and storage unit, agents discovered and seized 36 firearms, over 20,000 rounds of ammunition, receipts for firearms and copies of federal firearms licenses.

CHARLES BARRON, Clarksville, Missouri, pled guilty last October to one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm.  He was sentenced by United States District Judge Carol E. Jackson in St. Louis.

Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant United States Attorney Reginald Harris, who handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
