DUNKLIN COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGE

United States Attorney Catherine Hanaway announced today that a Dunklin County man was sentenced to prison on a federal drug charge.

JIMMY DON GEORGE of Senath, Missouri, was sentenced to 108 months in prison on one felony count of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine. Upon release from prison, George will be placed on supervised release for a period of four years. He appeared before U.S. District Judge Charles A. Shaw on Monday, March 10, 2008, in Cape Girardeau.

Previously with his plea, George admitted that on January 11, 2007, he was arrested by a Dunklin County Deputy Sheriff upon coming out of a shed at his residence in Senath, Missouri, and found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine. Agents of the Bootheel Drug Task Force then obtained and executed a search warrant at that residence. Located in the shed was approximately one half ounce of methamphetamine, a set of digital scales and a .22 caliber pistol. A .38 special revolver was also recovered from the house.

Hanaway commended the Bootheel Drug Task Force, the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their combined efforts to prosecute this case. Special Assistant United States Attorney Tim J. Willis handled the prosecution for the Government.
