For Immediate Release JACKSON MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR POSSESSING CRACK COCAINE WITH THE INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE A Jackson, Missouri man was sentenced today on federal drug charges, announced United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway. DONALD LAVEL GILMORE was sentenced to 120 months on one felony count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base. He appeared before United States District Judge Charles A. Shaw. On August 14, 2007, officers for the Cape Girardeau Police Department attempted to arrest Donald Lavel Gilmore in Capaha Park in Cape Girardeau as he delivered an ounce of “crack” cocaine to an informant. When the officers, in marked patrol units, attempted to stop Gilmore’s vehicle, he fled. As Gilmore was driving out of the area, officers observed him throw a white plastic grocery bag out of the vehicle. This bag was located and found to contain 51.0 grams of "crack" cocaine. Gilmore eventually stopped his vehicle and was taken into custody. A search of Gilmore’s vehicle resulted in the discovery of several small pieces of crack cocaine and a small plastic bag containing a quantity of powder cocaine. Hanaway praised the Cape Girardeau Police Department, the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their excellent work in the investigation. Larry H. Ferrell handled the prosecution for the Government. |
