JEFFERSON COUNTY MAN CONVICTED OF FEDERAL METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGES

St. Louis, MO: David Stolts was convicted late Tuesday on federal methamphetamine charges, United States Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway, Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Forrest Wegge and Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer announced today.

“Mr. Stolts is facing a significant amount of prison time for his possession and distribution of a large amount of methamphetamine,” said Hanaway.  “I would especially like to commend the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force and its leader Sheriff Glenn Boyer, who spend a significant amount of time finding and dismantling methamphetamine laboratories.  With their assistance, we will make every effort to prosecute people who manufacture this dangerous drug.”

“I would like to commend the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their outstanding efforts.  This conviction exemplifies the continuing cooperation between our offices,” added Sheriff Boyer.

DAVID STOLTS, Dittmer, Missouri, was convicted of one count of possession with intent to distribute in excess of 500 grams of methamphetamine.  The two-day trial was held before United States District Judge Charles A. Shaw.

Stolts now faces a penalty range of ten years to life in prison and/or fines up to $4 million when he is sentenced on July 31, 2008.

Hanaway commended the work performed on the case by Assistant United States Attorneys Jeannette Graviss and Michael Bert, who prosecuted the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
