Former Blue Springs man, woman indicted for sex trafficking of a child
KANSAS CITY - A former Blue Springs, Mo., man and woman have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to the sex trafficking of the woman’s daughter. Todd B. Barkau, 35, of New York, previously of Blue Springs, was charged in a seven-count indictment returned under seal by a federal grand jury in Kansas City on May 7, 2008.

KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for cyberstalking. Shawn D. Memarian, 28, of Kansas City, was charged in an indictment returned under seal by a federal grand jury on Thursday, May 8, 2008.

Former airline pilot indicted for extortionist threats, false statementss to FAA
KANSAS CITY - A Platte City, Mo., man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for making extortionist threats to employees of the Federal Aviation Administration and for making false statements to the FAA. Matthew Harker, 37, of Platte City, was charged in a two-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury on Thursday, May 8, 2008. Harker was a commercial airline pilot for Southwest Airlines prior to having his Airman Medical Certificate suspended on Jan. 7, 2002.

Jury convicts two men for racially-motivated murder
KANSAS CITY - Two Kansas City, Mo., men were convicted by a federal jury for the racially-motivated murder of William McCay on March 9, 2005. Gary L. Eye, 21, and Steven Sandstrom, 22, both of Kansas City, were found guilty of shooting and killing McCay because of his race and because he was using a public street. Eye and Sandstrom were also found guilty of shooting and killing McCay in order to prevent him from communicating information about the attack to a federal law enforcement officer. Under federal statutes, Eye and Sandstrom are subject to either the death penalty or life in federal prison without parole for those convictions.
