INFORMATIONAL: SHANE DOUGLAS SICHTING ARRESTED


Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that pursuant to an arrest warrant, executed on August 31, 2007, the following individual was arrested on a criminal complaint:

SHANE DOUGLAS SICHTING, a 38-year-old resident of Libby, Montana, was arrested on charges of using interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1958(a). He is currently detained. If convicted of these charges, SICHTING faces possible penalties of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 5 years supervised release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kris Mclean is the prosecutor for the United States. The investigation was conducted by a cooperative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Montana and Portland (Oregon) Divisions, and the Lane County, Oregon, Sheriff's Department.

The defendant has not yet entered a plea to the charges.

The charge in the complaint is merely an accusation and any person named as a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
