BRANNON T. STEPHANY FOUND GUILTY IN U.S. FEDERAL COURT


Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that on October 17, 2007, in Butte, after a 11/2 -day federal district court trial before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah C. Lynch, BRANNON T. STEPHANY, a 26-year-old resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota (formerly of Bozeman), was found guilty of willfully injuring government property. A sentencing date will be set at a later time. STEPHANY is currently released on special conditions.

STEPHANY faces possible penalties of 1 year in prison, a $1,000 fine and 1 year supervised release.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy J. Racicot prosecuted the case for the United States.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Forest Service.
