ROBERT PAUL MUNOZ FOUND GUILTY IN U.S. FEDERAL COURT
Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that on April 10, 2008, in Great Falls, after a 11/2-day federal district court trial before U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon, ROBERT PAUL MUNOZ, a 49-year-old resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, was found guilty of making false statements by misrepresenting the existence of a hidden passenger in the commercial truck he was driving upon inspection to enter the United States. Sentencing is set for July 31, 2008. MUNOZ is currently released on special conditions.
MUNOZ faces possible penalties of 5 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years supervised release.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth A. Horsman prosecuted the case for the United States.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) - Sweetgrass Port of Entry.
