JOHNNY LYNN OLD CHIEF and MAYNARD MICHAEL OLD CHIEF FOUND GUILTY IN U.S. FEDERAL COURT


Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that on May 7, 2008, in Great Falls, after a 2-day federal district court trial before U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon, JOHNNY LYNN OLD CHIEF, age 44, and MAYNARD MICHAEL OLD CHIEF, age 41, residents of Browning, were found guilty.

MICHAEL OLD CHIEF was found guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon and JOHNNY LYNN OLD CHIEF was found guilty of aiding and abetting.

Sentencing is set for August 25, 2008. They are currently detained.

They each face possible penalties of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years supervised release.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard A. Hosley prosecuted the case for the United States.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
