EDWIN WHITEMAN JR. FOUND GUILTY IN U.S. FEDERAL COURT


Bill Mercer, United States Attorney for the District of Montana, announced today that on July 15, 2008, in Billings, after a 2-day federal district court trial before Chief U.S. District Judge Richard F. Cebull, EDWIN WHITEMAN JR., a 29-year-old resident of Lame Deer, was found guilty of maiming and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Sentencing is set for October 22, 2008. WHITEMAN is currently detained.

WHITEMAN faces possible penalties of 20 in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years supervision.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori Harper Suek prosecuted the case for the United States.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
