NASHUA MAN CHARGED WITH STEROID DISTRIBUTION

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – United States Attorney for the District of New Hampshire Tom Colantuono and Terry Vermillion, Director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Criminal Investigations, announced today that Robert Cashmon, 39, of Nashua, New Hampshire, has been charged by a grand jury for the District of New Hampshire with distribution of and the possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids in violation of federal law. Cashmon was arraigned on the charges at a hearing held in the United States District Court on September 24, 2007, and pleaded not guilty to the charges. A trial is scheduled for November 6, 2007.

The charges alleged against Cashmon are part of a nationwide effort to address the illegal distribution of anabolic steroids and other drugs. Anabolic steroids are Schedule III controlled substances under the Controlled Substances Act.

The case was investigated by the FDA/OCI, New Hampshire State Police, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Internal Revenue Service.

A complaint merely alleges that a crime has been committed and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
