07-11-2002 -- NEWARK - Following is a link to the criminal complaint against Steven Gold, a New York real estate executive charged with arranging over the Internet to have sex with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl, who was, in fact, an FBI agent. Gold made an intial appearance in Federal Court in Newark today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Falk, who set bail at $250,000 to be secured by equity in Gold's Rockville Center, N.Y. residence. The Magistrate also ordered that Gold be confined to his home with electronic monitoring except to go to work, meet with his attorney or attend church services. The Magistrate further ordered that Gold have no contact with minors, except relatives, that he not use the Internet, including at his place of employment, that he relinquish his passport and that his travel be limited to New York and New Jersey.

The defendant was convicted at the first trial for having defrauded American businesses and individuals by posing as the operator of African television and satellite outlets and soliciting money from them.
