LANGUAGE ASSISTANCE PLAN (LAP)

1. Limited English Proficiency (LEP) individuals may choose either to hire their own interpreter, at their own expense, or an interpreter will be provided by the USAO-NDNY.

2. The USAO-NDNY will take appropriate steps to ensure that interpretation and translation services are provided by individuals who are competent to provide services in the individual’s native language. Knowledge of and comprehension of language to be interpreted or transcribed will be required by the interpreter.

3. The USAO-NDNY has established within the office personnel or language assistance resources who are capable of providing assistance in the most frequently requested languages.
